The post Trevor Lawrence era for the Clemson offense got off to a sputtering start Saturday night in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte. With Lawrence in attendance, DJ Uiagalelei failed to get the Tigers in the end zone for the first time since the 2017 playoff loss to Alabama. The Tigers fell to Georgia 10-3 wasting an excellent performance by their own defense which also did not allow an offensive touchdown.
The game’s only touchdown came on a pick-six by Georgia’s Christopher Smith, a 74-yard return of an Uiagalelei pass late in the first half. Clemson had a couple of good chances to score touchdowns, but was stopped at the Georgia 30 by the interception, and at the Georgia 5 when they kicked the field goal.
The Tigers had only 180 yards of offense and finished with just two rushing yards thanks to seven Georgia sacks.
