#ACCKickoff: Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall & players (SAF) Joey Blount, (WR/QB) Keytaon Thompson and (QB) Brennan Armstrong (AUDIO)

Key Stats for the Cavaliers: Last year 5-5 with no bowl appearance. As good as Virginia has been at home under Mendenhall, they’ve been just as bad on the road. Last year, UVA was 5-1 in Charlottesville, but lost all four of its road games (Clemson, Wake Forest, Miami, and Virginia Tech). During Mendenhall’s five seasons with the Cavaliers, his teams are 17-2 in Scott Stadium, but second to last in ACC road victories.

Virginia pulled off something unique at #ACCKickoff on Wednesday, being the only Coastal Division team to feature two quarterbacks in their trio of players appearing in Charlotte. Both Brennan Armstrong and Keytaon Thompson spoke to the media gathering. Keep in mind though, Thompson can also play WR and caught a TD pass last year against Clemson.

Defensively, the Cavaliers were towards the bottom of the ACC last season, allowing over 440 yards per game. The “College Football News” had this to say about UVA’s “D”. “The linebacking corps wasn’t horrible but It has to replace Zane Zandler in the middle and fourth-leading tackler Charles Snowden. Junior Nick Jackson led the way with 105 tackles in an All-ACC season, and 6-5, 225-pound Noah Taylor can get into the backfield from the outside.”

UVA opens the 2021 season at home against William and Mary on September 4th. The Cavs first ACC game is at North Carolina on September 18th.
