Twelve more with state ties taken on Draft’s final day

The Major League Baseball Draft, which was the perfect filler for baseball while on the All-Star break, ended Tuesday afternoon after 20 rounds and 612 picks. Twenty-eight of the selections were players who played for a South Carolina team last season or was signed by USC or Clemson.

Eleven players tied to USC and nine to Clemson were drafted. Coastal Carolina, Wofford and Upstate each had two players drafted. OF TJ White of Dorman was the only high school player not committed to a college drafted from the state.

Most notable Tuesday was the 19th round pick of Clemson OF/QB recruit Will Taylor by the Rangers, the last player drafted from the state. Taylor had been a first round projection. Teams obviously weren’t willing to meet his asking price, and Taylor reportedly plans to remain in school and play both sports for the Tigers.

Here’s the rundown on in-state picks in the 2021 MLB Draft
