Former USC commitment SAF Anthony Rose (6-4 180) of Miami will return to Columbia for the second time this month next weekend for an official visit. Rose said earlier in the week his father and grandfather will join him. He made an unofficial visit June 6th with members of his former team from Hallandale, FL.
Rose committed to the Gamecocks February 23rd but announced a decommitment May 12th. USC secondary coach Torrian Gray, however, never lost contact with Rose, and Rose’s interest in the Gamecocks never waned. The visit earlier this month further confirmed his feelings that USC still might be the right place for him.
“It was great. It felt like that’s where I belong,” Rose said. “All of my teammates telling me that’s where I belong. The energy was just there. Everything was just perfect. They were telling me how the class I’m in will do on the defense, and how they are going to be able to use me. They see me as a DB” (who can play all over).
On his earlier visit, Rose got the chance to check out the Gamecocks’ football operations building, indoor practice facility, Williams-Brice Stadium and other football related amenities. He was able to compare those to other facilities he toured this month at Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
“Best facilities I’ve seen,” Rose said. “The only facilities that was a little bit better was Alabama, but South Carolina has a great facility. Even though I went to all those other colleges and camped there, South Carolina was the best one.”
Gray has kept up the contact with Rose throughout the recruiting process. And Gray has never closed the door on the opportunity for Rose to recommit.
“He tells me every day that the Gamecocks miss me and they can’t wait till I get back,” Rose said. “They are in my top three. They are always going to have a spot. Rose added he’s not sure who else is in the top three right now.
Rose he’s not looking at making another commitment until later in the summer, unless something pops up with a school that moves him to commit again. He does not have any other visits planned after the one to USC.
