Four-star CB Toriano Pride (5-11 172) of St. Louis Friday announced a commitment to Clemson. He chose the Tigers from a favorites list that also included Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, Missouri and Auburn. Pride was among the prospects on hand at Clemson last weekend for the Elite Retreat. That was not his first time at Clemson, however. He was in for the spring game April 3rd, and had also visited in the past while in the Upstate to see family members.
“I loved the atmosphere and all the people treated me like family, some of the other recruits and commits, that felt really good,” Pride said after the April visit. “I loved the weather down there. I just got to build a lot of relationships with some of the commits and recruits. I’ve built a lot of relationships with current players, so I got to see it from a perspective of people on the team.”
Defensive coordinator Brent Venables and corners coach Mike Reed were the leaders in Pride’s recruitment, and both coaches like the versatility that Pride will bring to the secondary.
“I like how they run their program and I like how they’re family oriented. I really like coach Reed and coach Venables,” Pride said last month. “They can put me everywhere in the secondary because I’m dynamic. And if I go in and grind, there’s a good chance of playing early. I know I’ve got to go in and work for it, but I want to play early. I would love to get in the rotation and show what I can do. And if I go in there and do my thing, I hope I can get to play and get a starting spot eventually.”
Pride’s commitment comes one day following the commitment of four-star safety Sherrod Covil of Chesapeake, VA. He’s their third commitment of the week. The Tigers now have seven commitments for their 2022 class.
