Caden Grice’s long ball to the opposite field in the eighth inning proved to be the decisive blow in Clemson’s 5-4 win over fourth-ranked Louisville at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Saturday. Grice’s dramatics came just a day after the freshman slugged a trio of homers to lead the Tigers to a win in Game 1 of the series. Grice drove in two runs, Saturday, giving him ten RBI’s in the last two games. Grice leads the club in home runs, RBI’s, total bases and slugging percentage.
Clemson (20-18, 14-12) has won its last five games, all in ACC play. The Tigers handed Louisville consecutive losses in conference play for the first time since Georgia Tech got the best of the Cardinals on March 5th and 6th.
Geoffrey Gilbert (3-4) picked up the win and Nick Hoffman induced a game-ending double play to record his second save. Southpaw Keyshawn Askew started the game for Clemson. Askew struck out a career-high ten batters and limited Louisville to two earned runs over 6 and 2/3 innings.
Clemson will look for the sweep at 2 p.m., Sunday. Senior Day ceremonies will start at 1:40 p.m.
