North Carolina scored the go ahead run in the top of the 10th, and five Tar Heel pitchers limited USC to just three hits, in a 3-2 win in Charlotte Tuesday night. This was the fifth meeting of the teams in Charlotte and the fourth win for the Tar Heels.

Each team scored a run in the first and a run in the sixth. Josiah Sightler homered for the Gamecocks’ sixth inning tally. Neither team threatened in the seventh or eighth. The Gamecocks had a chance to win in the ninth getting a runner to third with two outs, but Jeff Heinrich, playing for Braylen Wimmer who was away due to a death in his family, popped out to first.

The Tar Heels manufactured their winning run in the top of the tenth off Julian Bosnic who had come on in the ninth. With one out and runners on first and second, Caleb Roberts singled up the middle on an 0-2 to score the run from second.

The Gamecocks went down in order in their half of the tenth on a ground out to short and two swinging strikeouts.

Jack Mahoney started for USC and allowed six hits and one run over four innings. Daniel Lloyd followed an allowed a run over two innings. Andrew Peters then worked a pair of hitless innings before Bosnic took over in the ninth. Bosnic took the loss and is 2-2.

The Gamecocks are 19-8 and return to SEC play this weekend at home against Missouri.
