Keyshawn Askew provided Clemson (14-10, 8-6) with another quality start, giving up just two earned runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and helped the Tigers knock off NC State 9-3, at Raleigh, Saturday. Askew (1-0, 1.83) struck out seven and walked just one in his third start of the season.
Max Urban staked Askew to a lead early with a two-run homer in the second inning. Dylan Brewer matched the feat with a two-run homer of his own in the fifth. Brewer has nine RBI’s in the last two games. Bryce Teodosio also homered.
Geoffrey Gilbert came on for 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up his third save.
The Tigers have now won six straight conference games and will go for a second consecutive ACC road sweep at 1 p.m., Sunday.
