OT Grayson Mains (6-5 265) of Suwanee, GA announced a commitment to USC Thursday night becoming the Gamecocks’ second commitment for the 2022 class. Mains became a target of head coach Shane Beamer and offensive line coach Greg Adkins soon after they arrived in Columbia.
Mains narrowed his decision to USC, Tennessee and Michigan State. Thursday evening he held a Zoom meeting with Beamer and Adkins and delivered them the good news.
“They were electric too,” Mains said. “Like a big party. South Carolina has exactly what I want to study in Sports and Entertainment Management. I truly believe that Coach Beamer and Coach Adkins are going to start something great there, and I really want to be a part of that.”
Mains took a personal visit to USC the end of last week, and from that visit he took away the feeling that he had found what he was looking for in a college and a football program.
“Being on campus really just stuck it to me,” he said. “It felt like home being there, seeing everything in person, not just on a virtual visit. It was just great to be there and it felt like home.”
Mains also was attracted by the freshness of the USC program with a new coaching staff, and with the opportunity to earn some early playing time in 2022.
“I can compete to play as soon as being a freshman,” Mains said. “That’s exactly what I want to do, I want to play as soon as possible. I think I fit in perfectly with the offense, and I feel I can play very, very soon.”
Mains is rated a three-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite and is ranked the #62 offensive tackle nationally in the class. Some of his other offers are Air Force, Duke, Arizona State, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Purdue, UCF, West Virginia and East Carolina.
Mains has scheduled his official visit to USC for the weekend of June 11th and he said his commitment closes his recruiting.
