USC took a baseball series from Florida Saturday for the first time since 2011. The 20th ranked Gamecocks topped the 5th ranked Gators 4-1 at Founders Park to clinch the series win. Brannon Jordan (2-2) struck out 9 Gators over 7 innings. He did not allow an earned run and gave up just 5 hits while walking 1. Brett Kerry pitched the final two innings for his second save.
Wes Clarke cracked a three run homer in the fifth to wipe out a 1-0 Florida lead. It’s Clarke’s 12th of the season. The Gamecocks added an insurance run in the 8th on a sac fly by George Callil.
USC is now 15-6 overall and 3-2 in the SEC and will go for the sweep on Sunday with a Noon start at Founders Park. Coach Mark Kingston has not named a starter.
