Clemson picked up its second consecutive win behind quality pitching and three home runs in an 8-2 victory over Virginia Tech at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Friday. Mack Anglin, Mat Clark and Geoffrey Gilbert supplied the pitching, scattering nine hits and limiting the Hokies to a pair of runs. The Tigers trio fanned a dozen batters against one walk.

Clemson (7-8, 2-5) shook up its weekend rotation, starting Anglin (0-1, 3.07) for the first time this season. The move paid off as Anglin left after three innings and the Tigers up 5-1. Clark (1-0, 2.37) followed with four strong frames, serving as the bridge to the closer. Gilbert (0-1, 0.66) slammed the door shut with two scoreless innings to sew up the game.

Bryar Hawkins capped a first-inning rally with a three-run triple before Bryce Teodosio, Elijah Henderson and James Parker added solo homers. It was Henderson’s first long ball of the season.

Game 2 of the series is set for 3 p.m., Saturday. Davis Sharpe (2-1, 5.95) returns to the Saturday slot after less than stellar outings against Notre Dame and North Carolina.
