Pitching staff bails out #Gamecocks again in 1-0 win over Mercer (AUDIO)

Three USC pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Mercer Sunday afternoon as the Gamecocks completed a sweep of the Bears at Founder Park Julian Bosnic pitched the first 5.2 innings and allowed no hits while striking out 9 and walking 4. He’s yet to allow a hit in 16.2 innings of college pitching.

Jack Mahoney and Brett Kerry finished up each allowing a single while combining for 7 strikeouts and 0 walks. Over the weekend Gamecock pitching allowed 1 earned run and struck out 44 hitters.

The Gamecocks had just 4 hits Sunday and 17 for the three game series. They scored the game’s only run without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the fourth. With runners at second and third and one out, Joe Satterfield got the runner from third home on a ground out to second.

The Gamecocks entered the series batting .353 as a team. That’s down to .317. But the team ERA dropped to 2.54 from 3.46.

the Gamecocks are 10-0 this season and on a 15 game winning streak dating back to last season. Seven of the Gamecocks’ next eight games will be on the road beginning with a Wednesday night trip to The Citadel. Next weekend they will play a three game series at Texas.
