Clemson’s 9th-inning rally came up short when Notre Dame’s Jack Brennigan got Cooper Ingle to pop out to end the game at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Sunday. Notre Dame’s 3-2 victory clinched the series for the Irish. For the second game in a row, the Tigers were unable to muster much offense. After registering just four hits, Saturday, Clemson picked up only five hits, Sunday.

The Tigers threatened in the final frame when Caden Grice singled to open the inning. Bryce Teodosio checked in to run for Grice and reached third after a stolen base and a flyout, but Ingle couldn’t deliver a two-out hit and Clemson dropped its first ACC series of the season. Grice finished 2 for 3 with a home run, his fourth of the season. Clemson (5-4, 1-2) also got another good outing from reliever Geoffrey Gilbert. Gilbert tossed three scoreless innings and saw his ERA fall to 0.87.

The Tigers have a midweek matchup against streaking USC Upstate (9-0) at 4 p.m., Tuesday, before returning to conference play next week at North Carolina.
