
For the sixth time in seven seasons, USC Sunday won the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship. The #2 seeded Gamecocks got 27 points and 10 rebounds from Aliyah Boston and 18 points from Destanni Henderson in defeating #4 seed Georgia 67-62.
The Gamecocks will take a 22-4 record into the NCAA Tournament where they will be one of the top four seeds when the bracket is announced on March 15th.
The game was tied at 35 at the half and at 43 with 3:44 left in the third quarter. The Gamecocks scored the final 9 points of the quarter, all by Henderson and Brea Beal, to lead 52-43 going to the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs pulled to within 3 points with :15 to play. Boston, the tournament MVP, was quickly fouled and hit a pair of free throws with :13 left. The Bulldogs were not able to score again.
