The offense has been front and center for the USC baseball team this season, but Saturday the pitching staff stole the show. Four Gamecock pitchers combined on a 4 hit shutout of Mercer in a 4-0 victory, the Gamecocks’ first shutout win of the season in their 9-0 start. Brannon Jordan started and earned the win striking out 11 and walking 3. Jackson Phipps, Will Sanders and Brett Kerry allowed 3 hits over the final four innings

The Gamecocks scored all the runs they would need in the first inning. Josiah Sightler homered and Joe Satterfield laced a two-run double down the rightfield line. The game stayed 3-0 until the bottom of the seventh when David Mendham drove in the final run with a double to left center.

The Gamecocks finished with 7 hits, 2 by leadoff man Brady Allen. In the two games with Mercer thus far, the Gamecocks have managed a total of 13 hits. They came into the series batting .353 as a team. They are now at .332.

The Gamecocks will go for the sweep of the Bears on Sunday with Julian Bosnic scheduled to make the start. First pitch will be at Noon.
