
Starting pitcher Julian Bosnic set a program record with 8 consecutive strikeouts, and the Gamecocks broke a 1-1 tie with 4 runs in the 8th in defeating Dayton 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Founders Park to complete a three game sweep of the season opening series.
Bosnic hit the first batter of the game then struck out the next eight. The streak ended with a walk, and Bosnic left the game in the fourth with 9 strikeouts. 4 walks and 0 hits from the 15 batters he faced. He was charged with the Flyers’ lone run after walking the bases full, and reliever Daniel Lloyd gave up a one-out bloop single to left.
George Callil broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 8th with a two-run double down the rightfield line. Later in the inning, David Mendham lined a two-run double down the leftfield line. Mendham had 4 RBIs on the day.
Brett Kerry pitched the final two innings allowing a pair of hits, walking 1 and striking out 4 to get the win.
