College baseball practice begins across the country Friday and after having a promising 2020 season cut short by Covid, USC coach Mark Kingston is ready to go with his fourth season in Columbia. But he still doesn’t have a schedule. Kingston said he was prepared to release his schedule today but he had some late cancellations, so he’s still working on it.

Kingston also said freshman catcher Alex Boychuk, who would have been a contender to start, is out for the season after having surgery to correct a foot issue he had when he arrived. Kingston said Colin Burgess is the #1 catcher at this point.

Kingston also said he feels his pitching staff has the power arms to match up with some of the top staffs in the country. And he cited outfielder Brandon Fields as the freshman with the best chance to earn a starting job at this point.
