Pelion native and Furman graduate Justin Stepp has accepted an offer from new USC coach Shane Beamer to coach wide receivers with the Gamecocks two sources in Arkansas confirmed Sunday afternoon. Stepp had been the receivers coach at Arkansas since 2018. He will be the third South Carolina high school product on Beamer’s staff joining tight ends coach Erik Kimrey (Dutch Fork and USC) and running backs coach Des Kitchings (Wagener-Salley and Furman).
Stepp was a receiver at Furman from 2003-06 and had 118 catches for 1568 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. Stepp also has coached receivers at North Greenville, Appalachian State and SMU. He also served as an offensive graduate assistant at Clemson.
Last recruiting season at Arkansas, Stepp signed four receivers with four-star rankings and was named a top 25 recruiter by Rivals. He is credited with developing an electric receiving crops at Arkansas led by Treylon Burks who had 51 catches 820 yards and 7 touchdowns this season.
Stepp’s twin brother Josh is the running backs coach at Georgia State.
Beamer now has his offensive staff set. He still has to named his defensive coordinator, widely rumored to be former Vanderbilt head coach Derrick Mason, and his secondary coach. The USC Board of Trustees has a meeting set for 3:00 PM Monday to approved contracts for the new assistant coaches.
