Gamecocks head football coach Shane Beamer introduced three new assistant coaches as part of a media conference call, Monday. Former Gamecocks quarterback and grad assistant Erik Kimrey (tight ends) returns to USC after winning 12 SCISA state titles in 17 years as the head coach at Hammond in Columbia. Will Friend (offensive line) joins the staff after spending the last three seasons with the Tennessee Volunteers. Friend has previously worked with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo in stops at Georgia and Colorado State. Pete Lembo (Special Teams coordinator and Assistant Head Coach), a former head coach at Lehigh, Elon and Ball State, has been running the Special Teams at Memphis for the last two seasons.
In addition to speaking about Kimrey, Friend and Lembo, Beamer laid out why it was so important to retain Mike Bobo, Connor Shaw and Des Kitchings.
