#STRecruiting: #Gamecocks hoops adds fourth commitment with Woodley

Power forward Taquan Woodley has committed to USC

The South Carolina basketball team received its fourth commitment for the 2021 class when Camden (New Jersey) power forward Ta’Quan Woodley declared his intention to join the Gamecocks, Wednesday. Woodley (6-7, 215) chose the Gamecocks after recently decommitting from Penn State.

Frank Martin and South Carolina were able to get back in on the recruitment of Woodley in the wake of head coach Pat Chambers’ resignation from Penn State. Woodley is ranked as a 3-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports.

“We are super excited to add Ta’Quan Woodley to our signing class,” Martin said in a statement. “He is a 6’8″, 240-pound skilled forward who plays with tremendous aggression and strength. He is a high-profile player who had been committed to Penn State, and when Patrick Iriel made his decision it made us as coaches understand that we needed to get depth at the front line. Ta’Quan is someone we had recruited earlier, and when he made himself available we jumped on it right away. He is a high-level rebounder, who plays with exceptional strength and skill offensively. Ta’Quan understands how to pass, how to score and plays with a brute force that is much needed for our team.”

Woodley led his school to a 29-1 record last season and chose South Carolina over competing offers from Georgia, Temple, Rutgers, St. Johns and others. Last season he averaged 8 points and 10 rebounds per game last season.

The Gamecocks list of commitments for 2021 now includes Woodley, 6-5 Carlous Williams, 6-4 Devin Carter and 6-2 Jacobi Wright. Carter and Wright have signed. Williams plans to sign April 26th.
