Byron Young

Former Carvers Bay DE Byron Young (6-2 220), who is now a sophomore at Georgia Military JC, has seen his recruiting status blow up over the last couple of weeks. Tuesday, USC was one of the latest major programs to jump in with an offer. Virginia Tech also offered Tuesday. Monday it was Mississippi State. Young also holds offers from LSU, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, East Carolina, Tennessee, Southern Illinois and Old Dominion. Last season Young recorded 31 tackles with 11 tackles for loss and 7 sacks. Georgia Military will play its football schedule in the spring, so Young will not use this season of eligibility there since he is graduating in December. That will leave him three years to play at the next level.

Clemson is in the top three with 5-star 2022 ATH Malaki Starks (6-1 196) of Jefferson, GA. He’s played quarterback, running back, receiver and defensive back. The other two on his short list are Georgia and Alabama. Starks also is a track standout and has run a 22.48 in the 200 meters. In the 247Sports Composite, Starks is ranked #26 nationally among all prospects in his class, the #3 athlete and the #3 prospect in Georgia. He’s coached by former Seneca and Greenwood head coach Gene Cathcart.

2022 DE Jihaad Campbell (6-4 220) of Sicklerville, NJ named Clemson and USC in his top 12. The others on his list are Michigan State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Oregon, Boston College, Wake Forest, Michigan, Tennessee and Duke. He’s rated a a three-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite and ranked 22nd among weakside defensive ends nationally in his class.

2022 SAF Jaron Willis (6-2 210) of Leesburg, GA,, who has an offer from USC, plans to announce a short list soon. He’s a teammate of USC 2021 commitment RB Caleb McDowell. Some of his other offers are Tennessee, Florida, LSU, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Florida State, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Southern Cal, Syracuse, West Virginia, Indiana and Ole Miss.

2023 C/OF Ryan Bakes (5-9 182) of Algonquin, IL committed to USC.
