Alabama closes gap with top-ranked #Clemson, Coastal continues to climb

Clemson’s difficult day with Boston College cost the Tigers 1st place votes (Josh Morgan – USA TODAY Sports)

A narrow win over Boston College by Clemson, a blowout of Mississippi State by Alabama, and more AP voters shifted their first place votes to the Crimson Tide, but not enough to displace the Tigers atop the poll. The Tigers received 33 of the 62 first place votes, their fewest of the season to date. Conversely, Alabama had the other 29 first place votes, its most of the season. Coastal Carolina, which had its most impressive win of the season at Georgia State Saturday, moved up 5 spots to #15. Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia round out the top five in the AP. The coaches’ top five is identical to the AP with Ohio State picking up a pair of first place votes.
