#STRecruiting: Brownell adds another major piece to #Clemson recruiting class with Lucas Taylor

Lucas Taylor committed to Clemson Friday night

Clemson basketball coach Brad Brownell scored another impressive recruiting victory Friday night when 6-6 two-guard Lucas Taylor of Wake Forest, NC announced a commitment to the Tigers. Taylor picked Clemson over Marquette, Wisconsin, Davidson and Cincinnati. He’s the third commitment for Brownell’s 2021 recruiting class.

Taylor announced his commitment on a live Twitter feed thru the North Carolina based high school sports site HighSchoolOT. In his post-announcement interview, Taylor said he chose Clemson because he felt the fit there for him was a good one.

“I feel like their offense, with a lot of staggers (screens), ball screen situations as well and a lot of isos (isolation plays) too, I can really thrive in,” Taylor said. “Defensively, they are really tough, so I feel like on that side of the floor I can really help them usc my length and all those good things. The closeness to home also was a factor, only being up the road, not too far but not too close. The family can come and see me without it being too much of a problem.”

Taylor also said he’s excited for the opportunity to play in the ACC.

“I feel like it’s a really great feeling to be able to compete against the best of the best,” Taylor said. “I really just feel like I have something to prove against some of the top guys. I really just want to compete and have fun, and show that we can really take Clemson to the top of the ACC with the guys they are getting. Clemson grit is what they say so we’re going to go in there and work and just reap the benefits of it.”

Taylor averaged 21 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game last season. He’s ranked as the #36 shooting guard prospect in the country in the 247Sports Composite, and the #7 prospect in North Carolina.

The Tigers also have commitments from 6-3 Joshua Beadle and 6-8 Ian Schieffelin.
