USC finished up the light-lifting portion of camp Saturday with a two-hour workout in shells. After a day off Sunday, the Gamecocks will work in full pads on Monday. Apparently, the intensity Saturday was a good sign to coach Will Muschamp that his team is ready for the serious work starting next week. “We got a lot of scrimmage snaps with the coaches getting off the field for day four,” Muschamp said in a statement following the work out. “There are a lot of things to correct – we were a little sloppy at times. Again, we’re much further along than we’ve ever been at this point from a scheme standpoint. But there were some real good things as well. So we’ll continue to let the players play, get (the coaches) off the field and continue to progress the team.”
The defense had some big plays Saturday, creating turnovers, and the head coach was glad to see that. “Yeah, we did (create turnovers),” said Muschamp. “Yesterday there were a lot of explosive plays offensively. It was good the defense responded today. We had some critical turnovers on some critical downs. We’ve got to continue to do that.”
No media were not involved in any post-practice interviews Saturday, but Assistant AD for Athletics Communications and Public Relations talked with placekicker Parker White and fullback Adam Prentice.
