John Butler picks Florida State

7-0 center John Butler Jr. of Christ Church announced a commitment to Florida State Wednesday afternoon. Butler, who is coached by his father at Christ Church, also had USC, Alabama, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt on his short list. Clemson had also offered. The slight of frame Butler has guard like skills and can play on the perimeter. He’s athletic enough to guard much smaller players. Last season Butler averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game. In the 247Sports Composite, he’s rated as a 4-star prospect and ranked the #14 center in the country and #3 prospect in South Carolina. He joins 6-5 Bryce McGowens of Wren as Florida State commitments and is the seventh prospect with in-state ties in the 2021 class to commit to a D-1 out of state program.

USC offered 7-1 center Donovan Clingan of Bristol, CT. Her’s rated a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports composite and the #6 center prospect nationally in the 2022 class. He also has offers from Syracuse, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Rutgers and Yale.

USC media outlets confirmed today thru the school that Gamecock running back signee ZaQuandre White has been admitted and is set to join the rest of the football team this weekend. White is a native of Ft. Myers, FL who started his career as a linebacker at Florida State in 2017 and transferred to Iowa Western in 2019 so he could play running back.

Clemson target CB Jalil Farooq of Upper Marlboro, MD has set September 27th for his commitment announcement.

USC CB Khyree Jackson of East Mississippi JC has cut USC and Kentucky from his list and is down to Alabama, Florida, Oregon and Oklahoma. He will announce August 15th.

USC offered 2022 CB Keenan Nelson (6-1 200) of Philadelphia. He’s rated a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite and ranked as the #11 CB prospect nationally in his class, and the #2 prospect in Pennsylvania. Some of his other offers are Georgia, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Pitt, Rutgers, Temple, Virginia, Maryland, Oregon, Michigan State, Penn State, Duke, Miami and Virginia Tech.

USC offered 2022 WR Shaleak Knotts (6-2 175) of Monroe, NC. He’s rated a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite and the #8 receiver nationally in his class. Some of his other offers include Georgia, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Texas, Miami, Kentucky, NC State, Louisville, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.

USC offered 2023 DT Keith Sampson (6-3 285) of New Bern, NC. He also has offers from Tennessee and Charlotte.

2022 DE Robby Harrison of Emerald was offered by Arizona State, his first offer.

2022 INF/RHP Brodey Conn of Daniel committed to TCU. He’s the son of Clemson safeties coach Mickey Conn.
