USC head coach Will Muschamp and offensive line coach Eric Wolford have kept up their recruiting efforts with OT Caleb Etienne (6-9 315) of New Orleans and Butler County JC, KS. The one-time Ole Miss commitment and Nichols State signee said the Gamecocks are one of the programs he’s talking with the most, and he has the Gamecocks in a strong position with his recruiting.
“I’ve been talking with the offensive line coach a lot from South Carolina, Coach Wolford, he’s been keeping in contact with me the most,” Etienne said. “We talk every day of the week. They stay in contact with me, get on Zoom, stuff like that. He just talks about the campus and all the stuff they have to offer. Just really giving me a read on some of the stuff that they have that can help me if I come there.”
Etienne said Wolford has presented his plans for him and believes the two of them could have a bright future working together.
“He’s been telling me a lot of stuff about how he produces a lot of people,” Etienne said. “He just wants to be able to work with me and tell me the right stuff to do. I’ve got interest, most definitely, staying in contact and building our relationship as the process goes on I like it. Everything has been going fine. I’m also talking to Oregon, Houston and Mississippi State a lot.”
Etienne just picked up an offer from Oklahoma State, but prior to that he said he was mostly hearing from USC, Oregon, Houston and Mississippi State.
Etienne, who played his freshman season at Fort Scott JC, KS said he won’t make a decision until late in the fall, and he won’t be graduating until next spring. He hopes to be able to visit some schools before making his decision, but if not, he’ll do his research and go from there.
