#STRecruiting: #Gamecocks in the top six with Tennessee LB

Damon Owens

LB Damon Owens (6-1 203) of Brentwood, TN cut his list to six with USC in the group. The other five are Penn State, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Kentucky and Louisville. All like him as a linebacker except for Penn State which sees him as a safety. And Owens has visited all six. He got a chance to see the Gamecocks in action last season and since then Will Muschamp and Bobby Bentley have built a solid relationship with him.

“I took my first visit back in the season when they played Vandy, probably my most enjoyable visit,” Owens said. “The main person I talk to is Coach Bentley. Me and him been talking for a while now, pretty much daily. I’m a linebacker that they want and would be a good fit for their team. They are pretty interested in me.”

And Owens has plenty of interest in the Gamecocks. He’s been highly impressed with their recruiting approach with him.

“They are pretty up front and seem like good people, like they want to take care of you and help you as a player and a person,” Owens said. “I have talked to Coach Muschamp once or twice. I talked to him in person when I was there. He likes me, he likes my film. He just said I would fit in at South Carolina.”

Despite that, Owens said of his final six, Louisville has been pushing the hardest through their contact. But, he does not claim a favorite at this point. Owens wants to take his official visits and he would like to make his decision before the season.

Owens is rated as a three-star prospect in the 247Sports composite and ranked the #57 outside linebacker in the country. He’s also ranked as the #23 prospect in Tennessee.
