Ray Tanner addresses Coronavirus issues for the #Gamecocks (AUDIO)

Ray Tanner meets with the media Friday night at Founders Park

USC athletics director Ray Tanner Friday night met with the media for nearly a half-hour at Founders Park to update all on how his administration is dealing with the Coronaviris as it relates to the Gamecock athletes, coaches and supporting personnel. Of course, like all college teams across the country, the Gamecocks are shut down from practice and competition. In the case of the SEC, the hoped for date for the return to practice is April 15th.

Some of Tanner’s key comments:

  • Dining, academic services and training rooms will be open. Weight room and all athletic facilities will be closed down.
  • There is one USC student-athlete that has been tested for Covid-19, and one (asymptomatic) in quarantine.
  • On cancellation of CWS and spring sports championships: “I paused. That’s down the road a piece. Did we need the make this decision this quickly? The men’s and women’s basketball championships were imminent. But the spring sports? Could that have been revisited?”
