Clemson’s offensive output continues to trend down but thanks to stellar pitching, the Tigers win total continues to go up. A day after putting up a 2-0 victory over Stony Brook, Clemson posted a 1-0 win when Elijah Henderson’s 10th-inning single plated Mac Starbuck with the game’s only run.

The Tigers are averaging just 3 runs/game, but have now run their record to 6-0. Righthander Davis Sharpe (1-0, 0.00) delivered six scoreless innings, striking out six without a walk. The sophomore was a model of control, throwing 61 strikes on his 88 pitches. Sharpe has thrown 11 innings over two starts without giving up a run.

Clemson’s staff has been nearly unhittable this season, holding the opposition to a .160 average, leading to a team ERA of 0.82 through 55 innings. Although, the staff may have suffered its first setback of the season when lefthander Sheldon Reed left the game in obvious pain after striking out the only two batters he faced.

Despite Clemson’s inability to score consistently, Henderson is off to a terrific start at the plate. The leftfielder went 2 for 2 and raised his season average to .579. Henderson leads the Tigers in hits, doubles and walks.

Clemson and Stony Brook will wrap up their three-game set at Doug Kingsmore tomorrow at noon. Righthander Spencer Strider is scheduled to start for the Tigers.
