Clemson (2-0) pitching made Kier Meredith’s RBI single stand up in a 1-0 victory over Liberty, Saturday. Davis Sharpe (1-0) held the Flames scoreless for five innings before giving way to Nick Clayton. Clayton, in his first career appearance, wiggled off the hook in the eighth inning after allowing two runners to reach. Clayton went on to close out Liberty in the ninth for his first career save.

Sharpe allowed three hits and a walk against six strikeouts. Second baseman Mac Starbuck scored the game’s only run on Meredith’s fifth-inning single. The Tigers managed just six hits against Liberty pitching but it was enough behind their own Sharpe and Clayton’s brilliance.

Game 3 of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
