Carmen Mlodzinski was dominant on the mound Friday (Ryan Bethea)

USC pitchers Carmen Mlodzinski, Graham Lawson and Trey Tujetsch combined on a 6 hit shutout, and the Gamecocks put 6 runs on the board in the top of the 1st, as they defeated Holy Cross 10-0 Friday afternoon in their season opener at Founders Park. Mlodzinski, making his first appearance since breaking a bone in his foot early last season, earned the victory allowing 6 hits and striking out 3 over 7 innings.

Southern Miss transfer Bryant Bowen ripped a three-run homer in his first Gamecock at-bat to spark the first inning rally. Andrew Eyster also homered as the Gamecocks managed just 6 hits but they drew 8 walks and had 1 hit batsmen. The Crusaders also committed 4 errors. Seven of the Gamecocks’ runs were earned.
