Mitch Jeter

USC has dependable placekicker Parker White back for the 2020 season, but that will be it for him, and the Gamecocks Tuesday made a move to fill that future void with an offer to 2020 PK Mitch Jeter of Salisbury, NC. And the Gamecocks are in excellent position to land Jeter, perhaps as early as Sunday when he will take an unofficial visit along with members of his family.

“You know, the last week has really been crazy. I was working Sunday with my coach Dan Orner in Charlotte and he said South Carolina had an offer. He then talked with their coach and wanted him to see me, so he saw my film and me kick and he really liked what he saw. Their needs will be with Will Tommie graduating for kickoffs and Parker White a senior, they want me to compete and come in when Parker leaves.”

Jeter visited USC last spring and Sunday will be his first visit since then. He also has offers from Virginia Tech, East Carolina and Memphis, but the USC offer appears to have trumped the rest. He sees more for him in that opportunity.

“It’s an SEC school and it’s the environment I’ve dreamed of playing in and worked hard for,” Jeter said. “To have the opportunity to play there puts me at a loss for words. I’m very excited. SEC football is my dream, and I’d love to be at USC.”

Asked it a commitment is possible on the Sunday visit, Jeter replied, “Potentially.” He said he does not plan to sign next week, “but I hope to have my decision soon.”

This season Jeter displayed a strong leg with a long field goal of 57 yards, and all of his deep kickoffs went for touchbacks. He was 8-10 on his field goal attempts.
