Clemson has been selected to the College Football Playoff field of four for the fifth consecutive season. The Tigers (13-0), the defending national champions, are seeded third and will meet second-seeded Ohio State (13-0) in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ari., Dec. 28th. The other semifinal will pit top-seeded LSU (13-0) and fourth-seeded Oklahoma (12-1) in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Dec. 28th. The winners of the two semifinals will meet to settle the National Championship in New Orleans on Jan. 13th.

LSU, with its dominant 37-10 victory over Georgia in the SEC Championship, moved to the top of the heap in some key metrics like “game control” and “strength of record.” Ohio State dropped out of the top spot after struggling through the first half of the Big Ten Championship before imposing its will on Wisconsin, 34-21.

Clemson doesn’t have the strength of schedule of the top two, but the Tigers have dominated their competition in 12 of 13 outings. Since escaping Chapel Hill with a 21-20 victory over North Carolina, Clemson has outscored its opponents by an average score of 51.9-9.8.

Oklahoma is in the field for the fourth time but the Sooners are 0-3 in their previous three trips, including a 37-17 loss to Deshaun Watson and the Tigers in 2016. Clemson last met Ohio State in the 2017 semifinals, a 31-0 Tigers victory en route to a national championship. That game was also held at the Fiesta Bowl.
