Reggie Grimes

USC football coach Will Muschamp has called Thanksgiving “just a meal”, and his will go down a lot easier Thursday if he lands the commitment of DE Reggie Grimes Jr. of Brentwood, TN.   Grimes, the son of the former Alabama standout of the same name, has been a heavily recruited prospect.  He named a top six in April and USC was in that group.

Grimes took an official visit to USC in June and returned for an unofficial visit in September for the Alabama game.  Following his official visit, Grimes recounted what he liked most about his time there.

“How open the players were,” Grimes said. “How the coaches were determined to do things the right way, including little stuff, where they’re trying to change the culture there. The way they play, how fast they play, how smart they play, stuff like that.”

Grimes also took official visits to Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Florida State.  LSU and Vanderbilt were also on that short list in April and he had interest in Ole Miss.

The Gamecocks have 19 commitments and have room for three more pledges at this point barring any attrition from the current group.  Only one of their commitments, Tonka Hemingway of Conway, is a defensive end.

  1. Calling Thanksgiving “just a meal”, sorry Coach Thanksgiving IS NOT just a meal and I really hope you didn’t mean it that way. Calling Thanksgiving just a meal is like saying, well “You’re JUST a Coach. Maybe I’m wrong about the meal!!
