Wofford did not have to sweat out the selection show today for the FCS playoffs. The Terriers, as the Southern Conference champions, earned an automatic bid but not one of the coveted top eight seeds and first round bye. The Terriers, however, did receive a first round home game and will face Kennesaw State of the Big South Saturday at 1:30 PM. The winner advances to play #3 seed Weber State December 7th.
Wofford, which is 8-3, will be making its 4th straight trip to the playoffs and 10th trip overall. The Terriers faced Kennesaw in the second round last year and fell 13-10. The Owls landed an at-large bid and are 9-3.
Furman will play at Austin Peay Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Paladins, who are 8-4, are making their second playoff appearance in three seasons under Clay Hendrix and their 18th overall. Austin Peay is 9-3 and the champion of the Ohio Valley conference.
South Carolina State, despite an 8-3 record and a share of the MEAC Championship, was not chosen for the 24 team field. And the Bulldogs can count a win over Wofford on their resume.
North Carolina A&T, which beat State head to head, earned the conference’s spot in the Centennial Bowl. Florida A&M actually had the league’s best record at 7-1 but was ineligible for the championship and post-season play. No team from the MEAC was chosen for the FCS playoffs.
