2021 RHP Samuel Simpson (6-1 160) of Carrollton, GA committed to USC Sunday night. He also plays 3B. He was in for a visit Sunday to watch the Gamecocks scrimmage Georgia Tech. Perfect Game scouted Simpson earlier this year and issued this report: Recorded a 7.05 second 60-yard dash time. Athletic build with a good amount of projection and lots of room to fill out. Primary third baseman who fields out in front and has some carry across. Deeper arm stroke with arm strength recorded up to 85 mph. Accurate across the diamond with light footwork and smoothness to the round. Secondary righthanded pitcher with a high three-quarters arm slot and gains velocity with confidence. Ball comes out of the hand well with an easy arm stroke. Good spin on the slurvy slider and threw it for strikes. Flashed a changeup. Lefthanded hitter with a slightly open stance, high hand set, and a high back elbow. Looseness throughout with quickness to hands. Gets closed at contact and has loft to the swing. Swing projects for power at maturity.
