USC QB Jake Bentley is optimistic they will play better than they did last time in Charlotte (Travis Bell/SIDELINE CAROLINA)

USC players who met with the media Tuesday to preview the season opener against North Carolina in Charlotte pretty much came across the same way, with a serious attitude about the business ahead. All except for defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw who was his normal, jovial self. The Gamecocks are 9.5 point favorites against the Tar Heels. They hope to play better than their last appearance in Charlotte when they were shut out by Virginia in the Belk Bowl. In fact, the Gamecocks closed last season without scoring in their final six quarters.
