Thursday could prove to be the single most productive day, in terms of commitments, for USC in the 2020 recruiting campaign. Three targets the Gamecocks have been strong with are now set to announce with TE Eric Shaw of Notasulga, AL adding his name to the agenda Tuesday that also includes DL Tonka Hemingway of Conway and SAF Ja’Qurious Conley. The Gamecocks could land all three, miss on all three or finish with mixed results.
Shaw tweeted Tuesday his decision came down to the Gamecocks, Tennessee and Auburn. He took an official visit to USC in mid-June and that’s been his only official visit. He also was in for the spring game. He visited Auburn for the Big Cat Weekend in early June and made a return visit late in the month. And he camped at Tennessee in June and was back for a visit the final weekend of July just before the dead period thus giving the Vols the last face-to-face visit.
Shaw is viewed as an excellent athlete who can also play linebacker. The Gamecocks have recruited him as a tight end and he said during the recruiting campaign he liked what the Gamecocks showed him at that position.
“They were already pretty high, but the way they use their tight ends, it’s perfect,” he said. “I’ve got really good speed. They want me strictly for tight end.”
The Gamecocks will lose two senior tight ends after this season, plus Evan Hinson’s health is in question. They also have transfer Nick Muse and freshmen Keshawn Toney and Traevon Kenion in the program
As for that Thursday schedule, Conley is set to announce between 2:30 and 3:00 and Hemingway and Shaw have set 3:30 for their time.
