Second year Arkansas head coach Chad Morris is widely regarded as an offensive genius, largely based off his Clemson years when he directed an offense led by Deshaun Watson. He parlayed that into a head coaching job at SMU where he went 14-22 in three seasons. But Arkansas was not distracted by those numbers. Rather, the administration there believed Morris could bring the same explosive offense to Fayetteville that he built at Clemson. It didn’t happen last season as the Razorbacks struggled to a 2-10 record, 0-8 in the SEC. In six of those losses, Morris saw his team score 17 points or less. But he feels he learned a lot from last season’s problems and he’s expecting a bounce back in 2019. By the way, Morris has a staff with a heavy Palmetto State influence. John Chavis of Dillon is the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach, Joe Craddock, who worked at Clemson, is the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, Ron Cooper, former USC defensive coordinator, is the secondary coach, Dustin Fry, a former Clemson offensive lineman, is the offensive line coach, and Justin Stepp, a former Furman receiver, coaches receivers. Arkansas will open the season at home August 31st against Portland State.
