SAF Janari Dean of Batesville, MS has put some things in order related to his recruiting. He’s reduced his list to USC, Georgia, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Arkansas. He has set an official visit to USC for June 14th. And he has set his announcement date for July 4th.
Dean also has decided which position he wants to play in college. Earlier in his high school career he was a safety. But he torn an ACL and broke an arm in the secondary, so his coaches moved him to running back last season and he rushed for 2030 yards and 18 touchdowns.
USC had been recruiting him as a running back with Thomas Brown heading up the effort. But Dean talked with Brown Tuesday and told him he wants to play safety in college, and Brown confirmed that is how USC will recruit him. He said Arkansas is still recruiting him as a running back and Tennessee sees him as an athlete.
The USC official visit is the only one he has set at this point. He’s gotten an earful about the football side of things. What he wants to see is the side of the university that will benefit him the rest of his life.
“The educational side will help me make a decision,” Dean said. “I want to see what they can offer me as a student. There has to be a life after football. Football isn’t always going to be there.”
Dean said his parents and two siblings will join him on the visit. If he can, he might get in some unofficial visits to some schools on his list before his announcement July 4th. He said there is no current favorite.
