Wofford to Jacksonville, Duke, Virginia to Columbia

The NCAA Tournament field was announced Sunday night.  The Wofford Terriers, regular season and tournament champions of the Southern Conference and riding a 20 game winning streak, were made the 7th seed in the Midwest Region and assigned to Jacksonville, FL.  The Terriers will face Seton Hall on Thursday.  The winner of that game will face the winner of the game between #2 Kentucky and Abilene Christian.

As for the teams coming to Columbia for games Friday and Sunday, the #1 overall seed Duke Blue Devils, coming off their ACC Tournament championship in Charlotte, will face the winner of the North Carolina Central-North Dakota State First Four game in the East Region.  VCU is the 8th seed in the East and will face UCF.

Also in Columbia in the South Region, #1 seed Virginia will take on Gardner-Webb and Ole Miss will meet Oklahoma.

Clemson and USC were left out of the tournament.  The Tigers are a lock for an NIT bit later tonight when that bracket is announced at 8:30 PM.  The Gamecocks, with a losing record against Division One teams, would appear to be a long shot since traditionally the NIT does not take a team with a losing record against D-1 teams, but that is not a hard and fast rule.
