It’s an extreme long shot at this point considering all the circumstances involved, but RB Asa Martin said Wednesday night he’d talk again to new USC running backs coach Thomas Brown if he contacts him. But Brown has to move quickly.
Martin is set to move into his new digs at Miami on Friday after spending last season as a freshman running back at Auburn. Things went down hill with the Tigers after the coaching staff inadvertently played him in five games, mostly in mop-up duty, and burned his redshirt, something he and his mother did not want to happen.
Martin decided to transfer and, after being recruited by Brown, chose the Hurricanes over Arkansas and Jacksonville State. And he is appealing for immediate eligibility arguing this season should have been a redshirt year for him and the Auburn coaches made the mistake.
Martin said as of Wednesday night he had not heard from Brown since he left Miami for USC but he would take his call and discuss the running back situation with the Gamecocks if he were to call.
“Sure,” Martin said. “It would be a long shot because of what I’ve done with housing (at Miami) but sure, if he contacts me.”
Martin was one of the top running backs in the country in the 2018 class and Alabama’s Mr. Football after rushing for 2228 yards and 33 touchdowns for Austin High in Decatur.
