USC’s yo-yo start to the season continued Wednesday night at Wyoming. The Gamecocks lost to the Cowboys 73-64 continuing their trend of following each win with a loss. They are now 4-4 and Wyoming, which is coached by Frank Martin’s former high school star Allan Edwards, is 3-6.
The Gamecocks suffered thru a miserable shooting performance. The made just 33% of their shots including 3 of 20 from three-point range. Conversely, Wyoming shot 44% and made half of its 20 three- point attempts.
USC scored the first 8 points of the game and never trailed in the first half taking a 37-33 lead into halftime. But the Cowboys took the momentum away to start the second half and went to the lead for the first time four minutes in. They never trailed from there extending the lead to 12 points.
AJ Lawson led the Gamecocks with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Chris Silva was the only other Gamecock in double figures with 11 and he added 8 rebounds. Wyoming’s leading scorer Justin James led all scorers with 20 points, 15 in the second half.
The Gamecocks are back on the road Saturday for a Noon tip at 5th ranked Michigan.
