The Atlantic Coast Conference named Head Coach Dabo Swinney its Coach of the Year and quarterback Trevor Lawrence its Offensive Rookie of the Year in its individual awards release on Tuesday.
Swinney earns his second such honor from the ACC and the first since 2015 when the Tigers also had a perfect 12-0 regular season.
Swinney received 27 votes in a ballot comprised of select media members along with the conference’s head coaches. Syracuse’s Dino Babers finished second with 22 votes and Pittsburgh’s Pat Narduzzi, who will meet the Tigers in the ACC Championship, came in third place with nine votes.
Lawrence becomes the seventh Tiger to win an ACC Rookie of the Year honor, the first since wide receiver Sammy Watkins did so in 2011. The freshman from Cartersville, GA threw for more than 300 yards three times and 2,488 yards having started just eight games and starting the season as a part-time player. Lawrence’s 22 touchdown passes tied ACC First-Team All-Conference QB Ryan Finley of NC State for the ACC lead.
Clemson tries to become the first team since the advent of the ACC Championship Game to win four straight conference titles when it takes the field Saturday in Charlotte against Pittsburgh at 8 PM on ABC.
