The South Carolina Men’s Basketball team rebounded from its home loss to Stony Brook with a resounding 81-64 victory over Norfolk State in their Opening Round Game of the Naismith Memorial Tip-Off Tournament Tuesday night in Columbia.
Hassani Gravett and AJ Lawson tied for the Gamecocks lead in scoring with 18 points, with Gravett responding well after a game where USC Head Coach Frank Martin singled out his poor play along with fellow upperclassmen Maik Kotsar and Chris Silva. Kotsar and Silva added eight points apiece, but Silva once again struggled with foul trouble.
Justin Minaya scored in double figures with 10 points and Lawson continued the good start to his Gamecocks career adding eight assists to his team-high point total.
South Carolina Head Coach Frank Martin said there wasn’t any hand-wringing after Friday’s loss to the Seawolves or any “come to Jesus” moments, but did compliment how his team played more cohesively against Norfolk State:
