After Stony Brook’s Elijah Olaniyi blocked Justin Minaya’s game-winning three-point attempt, the Stony Brook Seawolves completed a road upset of the South Carolina Gamecocks at Colonial Life Arena, 83-81, Friday night at Colonial Life Arena.
Akwasi Yeboah led the Seawolves with 24 points, and Stony Brook out-rebounded South Carolina by 15 including getting 10 more offensive rebounds than the Gamecocks.
After shooting just 26 percent in the first half, Stony Brook shot 50 percent in the second half and 19-of-23 from the FT line to close out USC.
Tre Campbell led South Carolina with 23 points, but the Gamecocks failed to get defensive stops in key moments, playing without forward Chris Silva who picked up his fourth foul with 10:18 to play.
Silva did not play after picking up his fourth foul in the exhibition game against Augusta, and Head Coach Frank Martin treated the situation the same way, Friday, saying the team needs to learn to play without him if these habits continue.
