All five starters scored in double figures led by Marcquise Reed with 20 points and a career high 13 rebounds as Clemson opened its season with a 100-80 win over The Citadel at Littlejohn Coliseum Tuesday night. Reed also contributed 4 assists and 4 steals in 3 minutes.
Shelton Mitchell and Aamir Simms added 16 points each, Elijah Thomas scored 15 points and Davis Skara 11. Clyde Trapp added 13 points off the bench.
Clemson led 49-40 at halftime and quickly built the lead to 18 points in the second half. The Bulldogs cut the lead in half with 6:38 to play but that would be their last field goal of the game.
Lew Stallworth led four Bulldogs in double figures with 15 points.
Clemson finished with a 56% shooting night including 11 three-pointers. They had 20 assists on their 34 baskets. The Tigers were also 21-25 from the line and won the rebounding battle by 14.
The Tigers return to action Friday night against North Carolina Central at Littlejohn Coliseum.
