Georgia Tech Head Coach Paul Johnson started with the Yellow Jackets holding the upper hand against Clemson, but lately he has not much to show for the meetings with his school’s permanent cross-division ACC rival.
Johnson won three of his first four meetings against Clemson, including a pair of wins in 2009 (one regular season, one ACC Championship Game), but now has just one win in the last six.
The common denominator in the last seven games? Clemson Defensive Coordinator Brent Venables, who has dialed up the antidote to the Yellow Jackets previous offensive success against Clemson.
The Clemson players and coaching staff tried to downplay the effect of playing a third option team in its first four games this week. Johnson, however said the biggest barrier to their success is their creating their own mistakes with missed opportunities.
