Second ranked Clemson goes on display Saturday afternoon against Furman in Death Valley with most of the same pieces back from last season’s ACC Championship and national semi-final team. That includes quarterback Kelly Bryant, who fended off challenges from Trevor Lawrence and Chase Brice in camp, and all four of the star defensive linemen.
Co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott talked earlier this week about the decision to stick with Bryant as the starting quarterback.
Bryant said the competition in camp was good and made all three of them better quarterbacks. And he was relieved to hear the news from the coaches that the job was still his.
Defensive coordinator Brent Venables could not have had a better off-season, what with a new, rich contract and and the unexpected return of three veteran defensive linemen who could have turned pro. But, this week Venables said they all still have to prove themselves again.
The Tigers are 42.5 point favorites over Furman Saturday. Kickoff will come around 12:20 PM.
