Thursday was USC’s day in Atlanta as SEC Media Days closed up shop for another year. As a matter of fact, Will Muschamp pointed out it’s his third straight last day appearance at Media Days, and this time he was the last coach to go before the media. He was joined by quarterback Jake Bentley, WR Deebo Samuel and DE DJ Wonnum.
Some quick notes from Muschamp:
One point of concern in camp will be developing the 7th, 8th and 9th offensive linemen.
Likes the first group of defensive linemen but like on offense they need to develop the next group. TJ Brunson is vocal leader of defense.
He’s concerned about the safety position. Jamyest Williams will be moved there. Feels good about top three corners.
They need to be more effective with four guys rushing the passer.
Feels Charlton is one of the best punters in the country, Samuel will be returning kicks.
Injury update…Valentine (knee) should be cleared in camp; Terrell (ACL) should be cleared in September or October; Ellis had knee scope yesterday, should be cleared first day of camp; Ibe had hip labrum surgery and is not sure when he’ll be cleared.
Safety Javon Charleston remains suspended. He said WR Tyquan Johnson remains only signee not to be admitted and hopes that will be cleared up in a couple of weeks. He said he could not comment on transfer DL Josh Belk.
Muschamp met with media mostly from South Carolina prior to beginning his rounds downstairs at the College Football Hall of Fame and the Omni Hotel:
